New promotional video for Dachen unveiled
A newly released promotional video for Dachen Island has captured the captivating allure of this enchanting destination and its rich local culture. The video takes viewers on a mesmerizing journey, following the footsteps of Wei Mengxi, a celebrated sailor.
Dachen Island is blessed with a distinctive natural environment that serves as an extraordinary training ground for sailing and windsurfing. More than 40 athletes have sharpened their skills at the island's sailing and windsurfing training base before joining provincial and national teams.
For Wei, Dachen Island is not only a place of nostalgia but also the very spot where her dreams took flight.
Wei Mengxi embarked on her illustrious sailing career on Dachen Island in September 2004. Since then, she has relentlessly pursued her passion, culminating in her remarkable victory at the 2012 Asian Sailing Championships in Malaysia, where she claimed the women's 470 sailing championship.
Situated 52 kilometers from Taizhou's urban area, Dachen Island is often referred to as the "Pearl in the East China Sea". The island is renowned for its indomitable spirit, which has been passed down through generations. Upon its liberation by the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) in 1955, Dachen Island was nothing more than a desolate wasteland, scarred by the ravages of war. However, through the unwavering determination of over 400 volunteers dispatched to the island between 1956 and 1960, the land was reclaimed and rejuvenated. A monument now stands on the island, commemorating their pioneering efforts.
Wei remarked, "The sea breeze and rhythmic waves of Dachen Island have refined my skills, while the island's ability to endure has instilled in me the courage to persevere and never give up."
