Taizhou: A hotbed for innovation

Taizhou in East China's Zhejiang province has in recent years emerged as a thriving hub for innovation.

Designated as a national innovation-driven city in 2022, the city has been steadfast in its efforts to enhance its innovative capabilities.

Last year, Taizhou ranked 53rd among national innovation-driven cities in terms of innovative capabilities. It also secured the 59th position among cities nationwide in this regard.

The local government has set forth a comprehensive plan to further strengthen the city's innovation capacity. Among its key objectives, Taizhou aims to achieve a total technology transaction volume of 11 billion yuan ($1.53 billion) this year. The city also aims to support the growth of technology enterprises by establishing a minimum of 15 incubators or maker spaces above the municipal level.

In addition to these goals, Taizhou aspires to foster at least one leading provincial-level technology enterprise, over 300 national high-tech enterprises, and more than 800 provincial-level small and medium-sized technology enterprises.

The city's dedication to innovation has already yielded impressive results. In the recently announced 2022 Zhejiang Provincial Science and Technology Awards, Taizhou notched an impressive 22 awards. Among these accolades, Taizhou secured 5 first prizes, highlighting its leading position in the realm of scientific and technological advancements. Additionally, 11 achievements were recognized with Taizhou as the primary institution responsible, further cementing the city's reputation as a hotbed for innovation.
